About Us
Welcome to Shaolin Quanshu, a form of Chinese Kung Fu. Kung Fu is basically translated from Chinese as having the meaning “hard work”. Quanshu means “art of fighting”. We teach everything from basic self defence and traditional forms, right through to weapons and fitness. We also include the mind, body and spirit and how one can grow in all aspects of life. Although the Shaolin Temple was founded over 1500 years ago, the training and spirit of this temple was of such quality that it soon become renowned throughout China and later throughout the world. The style is just as relevant now for success as it was in past generations. The ability to feel confident and safe; to improve focus and concentration; to increase health and general well-being; to have stronger posture and physique; to be able to defend yourself both physically and verbally; to have increased attention for study and work, which are all very important skills that contribute significantly to your success! To achieve this requires mental strength. determination and focus!
The monks of the Shaolin Temple discovered that health and fitness was a vital requirement for success and developed a training regime, that incorporated health and fitness needs, with safety and self defence requirements. Our goal at Shaolin Quanshu is to help our students develop a balance in their lives, and we offer the perfect balance of physical fitness, practical self-defence and character-building, self discipline to suit all of your needs as a martial artist.
Shaolin Quanshu is a system of Chinese Kung Fu which has its roots in the Kung Fu styles of South East Asia and mainland China. The lineage can be traced to the Abbot Seh Koh San from the Shaolin Temple in Singapore and has been created in its present form by the late Sifu Norman Morrison and Sifu Adrian Browne from their 40 or so years experience in the Martial Arts. The style involves punching, kicking, locks, throws, free sparring, self-defence, weapons, internal breathing, individual and two-man forms which have an essence of practicality and the training involves a certain degree of fitness improvement.
We are affiliated to a Nationally recognized martial arts body through whom we are officially insured and who also provide opportunities for events, competitions and seminars.
Our Art is suitable for all. The only criteria that we ask is for the student to have the dedication, the want to progress, train, learn and observe the codes of respect within the club.
We take students from the age of 6 upwards.
Our children’s classes are very popular and approximately 40% of our students are women.
We give the opportunity to experience freesparring events with other Martial Arts clubs from different styles and competition fighting where we have had some success in the past.
We do not condone the use of our Art outside of the training location unless in a justified situation.
We promote a very friendly atmosphere within our clubs and support each student in their goals both in their training, educational studies and in their careers.
We try to build confidence by encouraging self respect and respect for others. Teaching, first and foremost that we are a Martial Art, not a sport or a street self defence system. We teach Chinese Martial Arts in a traditional and sincere manner, but with constant regard to practical requirements. We believe in the development of character, both in our young and mature students alike and that a healthy body is a healthy mind.
Even though classes are enjoyable, discipline is expected.
